In 2005, artists came from 20 states, as far away as California, to participate in this annual event that has captivated Cary since 1977.
Cary was first established as a settlement in 1750 and originally called Bradford’s Ordinary. The growth and history of this city can be seen at the Page Walker Arts & History Center, built by the town founder and listed on the National Register for Historic Places. Cary is a prosperous town today thanks to Allison Page, who is credited for founding and renaming Cary, which led to the town’s incorporation in 1871. Cary was a small southern town until the Research Triangle Park was developed in the 1960s. What began as a few thousand residents commuting in the 60s, now has reached a population just under 120,000.
The residents of Cary are served by the Wake County Public School System that offers both traditional and year-round calendars, along with excellent pre-school programs. Higher education is a priority in the greater Raleigh area, and this can best be seen by the abundance of educational facilities conveniently located around Cary. The most famous of the area’s schools are Duke University, The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University.
